Naszym celem jest pokazanie, co zmieni się już wkrótce w Państwa codziennej pracy z dziećmi i jak skutecznie stawić czoła nowym realiom, mając do dyspozycji kurs Bugs World, następcę rewelacyjnie przyjętej serii Bugs, w tym zwłaszcza dwa zeszyty ćwiczeń do każdej części podręcznika, umożliwiające pracę zarówno z sześcio-, jak i siedmiolatkami. Ponadto w 4 miastach (Lublinie, Katowicach, Sopocie i Warszawie) zaprezentujemy szereg pomysłów na uatrakcyjnienie pracy z dziećmi mając na uwadze ich wszechstronny rozwój. Creating a teenage English World
‘Why won’t they just sit still?’, ‘Why don’t they focus on the task?’, ‘Why are they bored with everything after only a few minutes?’. The answer to all of these questions is, of course, ‘because they’re teenagers!’. And since a ‘maturation machine’ has not yet been invented, as teachers we constantly need to look for ways to engage and activate our teenage students. But how can we, in the limited time we have, make our classes interesting and involving, at the same time ensuring that they stay effective and do not transform into a variety show?
The answer to this question is: we have to enter our students’ world.

By making the content of our lessons relevant for teenagers, offering meaningful topics and using stimulating activities, we can redirect their natural energy and interest in the world to the learning process. And, mind you, this does not have to mean hours on end spent on preparing each lesson. Easier said than done? Not necessarily! Come to the workshop and see for yourself.
Memorable recycling
In planning our lessons, we usually focus on what we want to teach to our students, that is the input which we want to offer them. We rarely think about the intake, i. e. what they will truly learn and leave our classroom with. Research has shown that the human brain can handle remembering about seven foreign language words at a time. That does cast a shadow on most of our teaching practice.
We are not helpless, however. There are ways to make learning of both vocabulary and grammar more effective. The key word is, of course, recycling. In this workshop, we will look at various techniques of introducing and recycling language – from using visual stimuli, through role-playing language analysts, to code-switching (playing simultaneously with English and Polish). All of this to ensure that the retention of the content introduced is as successful as possible. After all, the more intake takes place, the more output we can expect.
Reading and listening for examination-purpose only?
When our students are about to face the Matura exam, we can get carried away with the preparation for the looming challenge.

Essential as exam-orientated work is no doubt throughout the upper-secondary English programme, it has to be remembered that we should provide our students not only with exam training, but also with opportunities for developing their language knowledge as a whole. It seems that the best vehicle for this is a fresh, no-nonsense approach to the teaching of reading and listening.
In this practical session, we are going to look at how reading and listening can be made not only recurring exam preparation tasks, but also powerful instruments of vocabulary and skills development, as well as a way to enrich the students’ general world knowledge. We’ll sample a number of activities and texts of various genres, ready to be tried out with your learners the next morning.
