In this talk we are going to look at two aspects of teaching at the lower-secondary level. Firstly, we will continue our search for balancing exam needs with regular teaching practices. In doing so, we will analyze typical course book activities so as to gauge their exam potential.

The first part of the workshop will be devoted to a discussion of aims of modern education recommended by the National Curriculum published in August 2007 and respective European documents, whereas during the second part we will be exploring the complex nature of practical activities and materials for upper-primary learners. Can teachers of English help their students find the hidden treasure ???
